1.Addons
Battleground Targets
It shows all battleground enemies.
It's like an 'arena unit frame' except It's for battlegrounds.
- Type /bgt ingame to configure the addon.
- You can right click to focus a specific target.
- There is a range indicator, you can see the line to the left of the druid.
- The number indicates target count.
Platebuffs
It shows debuffs above the nameplate frame, Mandatory if you're a dot class.
- Type /pb to configure the addon.
- Go into 'specific spells' and remove all buffs if you don't want that displayed.
Nameplatecooldowns
- Type /nc ingame to configure the addon.
If you combine Nameplatecooldown and Platebuffs.
PhotoRobot
PhotoRobot is an addon for watching key cooldowns on your portraits.
- No configurations needed, just install and log in.
2.Macro
All you have to do is replace the 'spell' with an ability you want it to work with.
Advanced mouseover with set focus
It'll cast the spell on your mouseover and also make it as your focus, if you don't have a mouseover it'll clear your focus and cast on your current target. There is no reason to not change this with your regular counterspell ability you have on your action bars.
Example how it could be useful; You see someone cast something important that you need to interrupt such as a heal you just mouseover and press your counterspell and you'll get him on your focus and can CC him after your counterspell wore off.
It sounds more confusing than i make it to be, just try it and you'll see!
#showtooltip spell
/focus [@mouseover, exists]
/cast [@mouseover, exists, nodead][] spell
Standard focus macro
#showtooltip spell
/cast [@focus] spell
You can change to the modifier you wish to use such as shift, ctrl and alt.
#showtooltip spell
/cast [mod:shift,@focus][] spell
Ressurection with mouseover
/use [@mouseover,help][] spell
Example how it could be useful; You can mouseover the raid frames and ressurect him without targeting him and this will allow you to not lose your target.
3.Initiative and synergy
Some classes synergizes with each other better than others, as you may now the deadly combination being smoke bomb and ring of frost around a flag carrier and getting a kill. It's about taking initiative and contributing to set up being made.
If all you do is tunnel the flag carrier without actually using your other spells that contributes to that synergy you're doing it wrong!
4.Cooldown usage
How you manage your cooldowns is just as important, overlapping too many defensive cooldowns or using an ability that isn't necessary for survival might cause a death later on. Keeping your head cool is very important, don't panic and trinket a shadowfury only to find out you're gonna get a polymorph on you later.
Never use cooldowns when you know death is coming, essentially what i mean is if you're caught in the field don't use your trinket, divine shield and wings just to delay the inevitable.
5.Strategies and maintain control
You're all trying to cap the flag at Blacksmith and you clearly see from distance that the guy is coming to interrupt you all but everyone is being stubborn. either you kill him off or CC him to cap the flag, take initiative!
Fight at relevant spots. Pick fights you'll win, never engage anything that's against your odds.
Understand your surrounding, if the healer is OOM, don't kill him and give him back full mana, keep him dry!
6.Communication
Call out the target you're gonna CC before you reach to the room with the enemy flag carrier, if everyone has a healer in their focus and interrupts their heals the flag carrier is most likely dead, If he trinkets your polymorph/fear switch focus.
Killing a flag carrier should be a swift and smooth execution!
Bloodlust->Smoke bomb->Ring of frost->Solar Beam->AoE fear on DPS/healers->Spell lock/Counterspell
Tunneling a target for too long might lead to bad results, you should kill things unexpectedly, a hard switch is lethal with pre-dots.
Building up synergy between players is very important in rated battlegrounds, I previously had players in my team to play 2v2 with each other to work with each others communication and playstyles, this goes both ways for both the offensive and defensive team.
It's vital that you only speak when necessary, such as calling CC or where the flag carriers exiting route is!
Timing is everything, if you don't line up your abilities along with other people makes it almost neglectable!
7.Target calling
As a target caller you need to be a vocal person and who Isn't afraid to speak up, you need to have acquired a certain amount of knowledge of all classes before you can do it. You need an addon to track every specific defensive cooldown of each player to make sure you're calling a target that is killable, platebuffs being one of them.
It's always good to have a backup caller incase the main caller is dead or he might have missed something but you need to understand that the original target caller is who decides if the swap should happen or not.
you need to be confident that people know who the real target caller is!
8.Items
Horde Battle Standard
You need to make sure you purchase one of these before you join any rated battleground group, It's very important that you rotate this item so you have a long uptime! Be wary of the long range (45 yards) you need to make sure you hide the banner well, in a house or in a bush. This is a huge bonus towards survability.
9.Death timers
Once a player dies the resurrector will start a timer on 30 seconds, this is the longest time you can stay dead for and you need to make sure you take advantage of this!
This is when the timer starts and every 30 seconds he will throw the ressurection spell in the graveyard, you need to time your kills so they have a long ressurection time and vice versa.
If you're about to die, make sure you ask for the ressurection time and try and kill yourself faster if the ressurection is coming up very shortly.
Some people tend to run to their back corpse and ressurect manually but you need to make sure you loot their corpse so they cannot run back! Particularly if they're defending in their base or you're attacking their base.
I don't need to say this but make sure you have full 620 item level gear, no exceptions.
If you're an outsider and wish to join us for rated battlegrounds please contact me ingame and we'll have a chat, bare in mind that you must be exceptionally experienced to have a chance.
